summer MUSIcal festival of CONQUES
The ADECC, a cultural association, is the organizer of the Musical Festival of Conques, "la lumière du roman". Its goal is to valorize the rich heritage of Conques with a cultural and artistic program of quality, all year round. The Musical Festival is the high point of these events. It is an exceptional and memorable way to discover Conques!
The unique acoustics of the Romanesque Saint-Foy Abbey-church, lighten up by Pierre Soulages' stained-glass windows and the auditorium in the Centre Européen, are the stages for the major concerts. Some of these concerts are also planned in other sites in Aveyron.
The 27 years old Festival invites the public to visit the musics from the 16th century to more contemporary creations, with various repertoires and different groups. They are a testimony of the real ties that exist between heritage and creation.

Other concerts and musical events in Conques
From May to the end of September: Musical and light show at night, in the upper-gallery of the abbey-church (organ play and light show), with a visit of the upper-gallery (tribunes) to discover the Romanesque capitals, at 21:30 (the tribune access is limited to children older than 12). Fee: 5€ (visit not planned during big concerts in the church).
CINEMA AT THE CENTRE EUROPÉEN
Once a month, the Centre européen invites you to a Film-General audience and a Film-Children audience.
EXhibits at the european center (CENTRE EUROPÉEN)
The present exhibit is on the Heritage of Conques (thematic boards and artifacts on display). Programming of exhibits will be mentionned in the Diary.
You may also find at the European center an Interactive Touch Screen presenting the Great Tourist Sites in Midi-Pyrenees.

Elle sait marier avec dextérité et harmonie la calligraphie, l'art de la belle écriture et l'enluminure qui signifie « mettre en lumière» autrement dit valoriser un texte par un dessin, de la peinture, et quelques fragments de feuille d'or".

Quatre étapes principales pour la création ou la reproduction d'une œuvre.
La fabrication du parchemin
Le parchemin est une peau animale épilée à la chaux, ayant subi un traitement non tannant puis un séchage par tension sur une herse (grand cadre en bois). Cette peau est ensuite raclée et poncée avant de pouvoir être utilisée.
La calligraphie
Chaque texte est reproduit à l'encre (ex: brou de noix, sépia, noir de fumée...) sur le parchemin à l'aide d'une plume ou d'un calame taillé (morceau de roseau ou de bambou).
La pose de l'or
En premier lieu, l'artiste doit tracer le dessin à la mine de plomb avant de le rehausser à l'encre. Ensuite il appose ce que l'on nomme «assiette» (Ex: gesso, gomme ammoniaque), sur la surface destinée à accueillir l'or.
Puis, à l'aide d'un morceau de bois creux au travers duquel l'artiste souffle pour humidifier l'assiette et la réchauffer, il dispose des morceaux de feuille d'or. Pour finir, l'or est bruni (on le fait briller) en le frottant avec une pierre d'agathe.
La préparation des couleurs
Toutes les encres et peintures sont créées à partir de matériaux naturels. Elles résultent du compromis entre les pigments végétaux (ex: pastel, garance...), pigments minéraux (ex: lapis-lazuli, ocres, émeraude...), pigments organiques (ex: murex, cochenille...) et les liants (ex: gomme arabique, jaune d'œuf). La préparation des pigments est précise. Le résultat des mélanges donne aux dessins tout leur sens et leur force. La peinture est appliquée en couches successives avant d'être contournée d'un liseré noir.
