Built over a thousand years ago on a solid rocky outcrop, this magnificent fortress overlooks one of France's Most Beautiful Villages. After discovering it in ruins in 1973, Fernand Pouillon (1912–1986)—architect, visionary, award-winning author, and Officer of the French Legion of Honour—devoted more than eight years of his life to the complete restoration of the Château de Belcastel.

Although the château remains a private residence, its current owners open it to the public, offering visitors the opportunity to explore both this remarkable historic monument and its temporary exhibitions. A self-guided tour, available with either a printed guidebook or an informative audio guide, leads visitors across the moat and through the château and its gardens. Only recently has this private castle—with its lush courtyards, medieval chapels, prison, and breathtaking panoramic views—been opened for public visits.

Encounter mythical creatures gathered within an 11th-century fortress, each telling its own story. Throughout the gardens, eight animated legendary creatures inhabit the site during the entire opening season: Basilisk | Griffin | Phoenix | Unicorn | Cerberus | Strix | Dragon.
